The new two-night format introduced new categories which showcased high impact, polished performances and celebrated te ahurea Māori (an echelon of excellence). Each school presented an original haka theatre piece, conceptualised, choreographed and performed by the students.
The three creative categories include:
The Haka Bracket
The traditional kapa haka bracket, incorporating creative theatrical nuances to enhance storytelling.
Haka Musical
A combination of kapa haka with musical theatre, using elements like staging, characterisation, musicality and dramatic intent to create an immersive experience.
Haka Movement
A focus on Haka Movement and choreography-driven storytelling, blending traditional and contemporary movement techniques.
